Transformations and Angles

This week in Mathematics we have been looking at Transformations (Reflect, translate & rotate) and Angles.

During a lesson on Transformations we needed to draw the first letter of our name then reflect, translate and reflect it in different quadrants.

We also looked at Reflection through images, below are some examples

We then looked at Angles and had a visit from Mr Squiggle.  Below are some images of our own Mr Squiggle drawings and the degree of each angle.

Next week we will be taking Maths outside, looking at Angles around our school.

Questions:

  • What did you learn about Transformations?
  • What did you learn about Angles?
  • What activity did you enjoy at the most and why?

Memoir Writing

Once we had learnt about what a Memoir was it was our turn to write some of our own.
Below are some examples of our own Memoirs.

Questions:

  • What did you learn from this lesson?

Alex 100WC – Week 38

ABLAZE

My eyes watered as I stared into the growing inferno. I heard a scream and a smash from my little sister. I wanted to run in and help but it was far too hot. I fell to the ground. Crippled. Smoke rose into the sky. Slowly Drifting towards the heavens. Glancing towards the house I was destroyed. Eyes watering then streaming with fresh, tragic tears. The reality of being an orphan was intensely traumatic. With a pitiful crash the roof caved in and fueled the crackling and popping of the deathly fire. I was too grief-stricken to cry anymore. My life had been ruined tonight.

Cecilia 100WC – Week 38

The scorching hot suns rays sliced through me like a hot blade. I stumbled through the abandoned desert, unsure if I was going to make it out of there alive. Three weeks without food or water, had left me practically dead. I had been surviving on only my high hopes of finding my lovely lost brother. He had been lost for 1 month, and I was willing to do anything to help find him.  Suddenly I collapsed, I need to keep going I told myself, but it was far too hot for me to keep going…What could I do?

Cecilia 100WC – Week 35

The atmosphere was freezing cold, my lips were turning blue, and I was shivering. My blanket was cuddled tight around me, but it wasn’t enough for this freezing this weather. The rain was pouring down on me, like hard solid rock,, and the sky was black. I breathed out steam, whilst stumbling on my bare feet as I walked. I looked around, but all I could see was white. I was trying to get to the gateway, where I knew my friend lived. I was running as fast as I could, I was nearly there….when suddenly I blacked out….

Showcased 100WC – Week 34

I would like to congratulate Alex on having his 100WC writing piece from week 34 selected  and awarded as a Special Showcase Piece. This is a fantastic achievement. Well done to all students within 6EK who take part in the 100WC each week.

BOOM! They were getting closer. BOOM! They were outside the door. I shook violently under my bed, back and forth, back and forth. I wanted to run, but where could I go? The door creaked open and a ribbon light danced around the room. Two men walked in carrying jet black guns. They walked on tiptoes to the dresser and stopped there. I dared to sneak a peek and what I saw shocked me. The men were facing me and the barrel was too

“Lets go!” he said. I followed his orders but I thought I knew the voice. It was uncle Ben coming for me….

Survey – Data

A couple of weeks ago we shared a Google Form with the world to collect data for our Maths topic. We were amazed with the amount of responses that we received. We would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped us out and filled in our Google Form.

We then needed to work in small groups to analyse the data then present our findings. It was very interesting to see how each group interpreted the data gathered.

What we thought about the data we collected:

Amy – It was fun because we got to ask our own questions and see what others responded from around the world.

Jesse-It was interesting to find out all the answers to some questions that you may have never known.

Anthony – I loved sending out the questions in a form and getting over 850 responses than asking the year 6 classes and getting 40 odd responses. What a great way to start working on data.

Claudia- I thought it was a great idea that we did the class form! I think our Google Presentation looks great.

Will – It was interesting about all the different answers. It was really fun!

Cecilia – I had a lot of fun analysing the data from our survey. Lots of the information we found out  was very interesting. I thought my groups Google Presentation was great!

Charlie- I think that it was really interesting how many responses we had. It was also really cool how we could see all the responses and what people had said.

Maggie – I enjoyed this because we got to make up our own questions and find out what people from around answered.

Callum –  I think that the survey was a good idea. I liked it how we made our own question.

Breianna- I think that the survey was good because we got to look at the results.

Jasmine: I think the survey was fun and interesting. The best part was looking at the results.

Alex- I thought the survey was interesting because we got to find out what people around the world thought of our questions.

Joseph-I really like seeing people from different countries filling it out. I like the different answers people put and wrote.

Shaun- I liked making a Google Presentation and analysing the data then presenting.

Fraser- I liked it when we created our own questions and people from aroudn the world answered it. I also liked looking at all the different responses.

Naeve- I liked some of the answers that people submitted and I was surprised with a lot of  the results.

Ella – I really enjoyed doing the survey because of all the different responses from around the world.

Maddy- I liked people from different countries filling out our survey and some of the results we were shocked with.

Mary- I liked receiving different peoples opinions from around the world and seeing all the different super powers people wanted.

Patrick – I loved making the Google presentation with my friends. I had a great time.

Issy – I really enjoyed making and analysing the data with a friend. I also loved the survey so we could see people from around the worlds answers. Overall this was really fun and I recommend it.

Julian – The data was really fun because we got to choose our groups. I worked with my friends.

Questions:

  • What did you find interesting about our data we collected?
  • If you could ask one question what would it be?
  • If you could change one thing what would it be?

Julian 100WC – Week 35

It was a cold and windy day as Josh was trying to get through the gateway to hell (Gates of school). It was the parent teacher interviews when the sun was just setting and the sky was turning black. Josh walked into the assembly hall where all the teachers were behind their daunting desks… Josh had butterflies in his stomach but he felt relieved when he saw his best friend Anthony. They saw the teachers talking to their parents and sweat was running down his forehead. Anthony was just as nervous as Josh. He was shaking! It was the worst!

Explanation Texts

This week we have been looking at explanation texts. We have learnt how there can be a wide range of topics for an explanation. We have also learnt about the structure of an Explanation text

  • General Statement
  • Sequential events
  • Concluding Statement

We have read a range of different texts and begun writing an explanation.

Below are some posters we created about some of the explanation texts we have read focusing on the structure. As well as our whole class activity where we begun writing about ‘How to eat a particular food’

Questions:

  • What did you enjoy most about teaching your buddy how to type?
  • What advice do you have for others?
  • What would you do differently next time?

Maggie 100WC – Week 34

The old dwelling on the hill swayed with the violent wind. I looked outside only to find that the world had transformed into a dark blur and immense droplets of water were teeming from above. A strange rattle came from my bedroom so I went to take a peek. Hiding behind my window was a dark shadow. I ran into the kitchen but where could I go. There was nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. One minute I was tucked underneath the bench, the next I was lying down on the Floor. How could this night have gone so wrong?

Julian 100WC – Week 34

I was stranded on a remote island looking for refuge. I couldn’t remember anything! All I remember  was going on a fishing chip with my father, then a massive tornado came… I woke up. I started collecting firewood for a huge fire to set when I saw a ship. I circled the island looking for a cave or somewhere to camp but where could I go? There was nowhere to go so it looked like I had to collect wood and build myself a shelter. I had to get food as well but luckily there were lots of fruit trees.
