As it is our school concert this week , we have not had a traditional Book Week. But we have been looking at some of the shortlists picture books and doing a range of interesting activities to reflect on the shortlisted books.

Jandamarra: – We looked at Indigenous Australian Dreamtime stories.
The Treasure Box – We reflected on words that describe special treasure, feelings and emotions related to war through creating newspaper collage.
Big Red Kangaroo – We use the images from this text to reflect on other Australian animals by writing a free verse poem.

BOOM! They were getting closer. BOOM! They were outside the door. I shook violently under my bed, back and forth, back and forth. I wanted to run, but where could I go? The door creaked open and a ribbon light danced around the room. Two men walked in carrying jet black guns. They walked on tiptoes to the dresser and stopped there. I dared to sneak a peek and what I saw shocked me. The men were facing me and the barrel was too
“Lets go!” he said. I followed his orders but I thought I knew the voice. It was uncle Ben coming for me….

The men were in suits, their hair cut straight. Each one had a dead serious face on, and holding a futuristic device. I peeked through the bushes, making sure no one saw me. I needed to report to HQ any info I found out, as I was the head field agent. They were blabbering something to one another, some of the words sounded like a foreign language……I jotted that down in my notebook, when I heard something that gave me the shock of my life, I stumbled forward, completely blowing my cover. They knew where our base was,how?!?!?!?!?
On Friday the year 5 & 6 students went to Scienceworks as part of this terms IBL topic – “What happens when nature goes wrong?”

I slowly slipped into my testing suit, moving towards the doors. they slid open as I heard over the loudspeaker “Testers for test 1670 please report to the chambers, testers for test 1670 please report to the chambers.” The chambers were cold and abandoned. THE LEGENDARY GOLDEN EGG
I peeked around the corner, making sure no one was watching me. I took out my black mask out of my handbag, and covered my face with it. I snuck into the museum, disabling each security camera I passed…then I saw it. The legendary golden egg, worth A LOT of money. I ran up to it, carefully lifting up the glass protecting it. I grabbed it, shoved it in my handbag and ran for my life, as the alarms sounded. I sprinted down the alley, until I was sure no one was following me. I reached into my handbag..but I couldn’t find the egg!…..
Last week the students explore what ANZAC Day was. They created an origami book full of poems, facts, prayers and information on ANZAC DAY. The students also learnt the song the Last Anzac.

The students in 6EK have been taking part in the 100 Word Challenge (100WC). The 100WC is a weekly creative writing challenge for children under 16 years of age. Each week a prompt is given, which can be a picture or a series of individual words and the children can use up to 100 words to write a creative piece.
Last term the students completed a challenge where they were required to change the ending of a Fairytale. The students were very proud of their work and they wanted to publish their mini stories. We decided as a class to create an iBook using the app Book Creator. The students have worked together and created their very first iBook. This book can now be purchased from the iBookstore for free.
